1. How can students and parents learn more about the Carroll County Career & Technology Center?

There are several ways to explore CCCTC and learn about our programs:

  • 8th Grade STEM Field Trip: 8th graders can visit CCCTC and explore four career programs.
  • 9th/10th Grade Open House: Held during the third week of October.
  • 9th/10th Grade Presentations: CCCTC counselors visit each high school to present program information during the school day.
  • 9th/10th Grade Meet & Greet: An informal opportunity to meet teachers, tour the school, and learn more about our programs. Check our website and your email for dates and details.
  • School Counselor: Your high school counselor can help you explore programs, plan your schedule, and understand the application process.

2. Can students earn industry certifications?

Yes! Many CCCTC programs prepare students to earn valuable industry-recognized certifications. Depending on the program, students may have the opportunity to earn credentials from organizations such as OSHA, American Culinary Federation, ServSafe®, State Board of Cosmetology, Cisco®, NIMS®, ASE®, State Board of Nursing, NCCER®, and AWS®.

3. Does CCCTC offer Honors and Advanced College-level courses?

Yes! the following programs are offered at the Honors and/or AP/transcripted level:

  • Academy of Finance
  • Biomedical Science
  • Criminal Justice
  • Cybersecurity
  • Engineering
  • Interactive Media Production
  • Pre-Nursing
  • Physical Rehabilitation
  • Teacher Academy of Maryland

4. Can students earn college credit?

Yes. Many CCCTC programs have articulation agreements or dual-credit opportunities with colleges and trade schools. Because these agreements are established by our postsecondary partners, college credit opportunities may change over time. Students should speak with their instructor or school counselor about the current opportunities available in their program.

5. How are CCCTC programs kept current with industry standards?

Our programs are regularly reviewed by business and industry professionals, evaluated by colleges for credit eligibility, and certified by professional organizations. This helps ensure students are learning current skills that prepare them for college and careers.

6. What are the minimum criteria for acceptance into a program?

The following information is taken from the Carroll County Public Schools Program of Studies:

Students are selected based on the probability of success in Career and Technology Center and Regional Programs. The minimum requirements for enrollment in a Career and Technology Center or Regional Program are:

  • 94% attendance

  • 2.0 Weighted Grade Point Average

  • Successful completion of the required prerequisites

  • Promotion to Grade 11

  • Completion of coursework as indicated in the Pathways to Careers

Students who do not meet these requirements may still be considered for enrollment. It is recommended that students improve their grades and/or attendance and increase the rigor of their coursework.

7. When do students apply?

Applications for first-round consideration are due by December 1 of a student's 10th-grade year. Most available seats are filled during the first round of admissions. Students may still apply after December 1; however, they will be placed on a waitlist and may be offered a seat if an opening becomes available before the program begins.

8. Why doesn't meeting the minimum requirements guarantee acceptance?

Some CCCTC programs receive more applications than available seats. Admission is competitive, and applicants are evaluated using established selection criteria. As a result, some qualified students may be placed on a waitlist.

9. What happens if a student is placed on a waitlist?

Waitlists are reviewed periodically as openings become available. Students on the waitlist may be offered admission if space becomes available.
