CHILD AND ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT Course: 401818 (Honors) 1 credit This honors level course focuses on human development from birth through adolescence. Emphasis is placed on theories of physical, cognitive and psychosocial development, the effect of heredity and the environment, the role of caregivers and the family, health and safety concerns, and contemporary issues. Students explore special challenges to growth and development. Students will have opportunities for guided observation of children from birth through adolescence in a variety of settings to help students further understand theories of human development. Students will work on the process of developing components of a working professional portfolio. Prerequisites and other notes: This course is the first in a series of courses in two articulated completer programs, Education – TAM and Child Development & Early Education. It is a prerequisite to any other courses in these programs and additional child development courses. It is open to students in grades 10-12. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR PRESCHOOLERS Course: 401317 (Articulated) 1 credit This course focuses on learning environments for preschool care, as well as establishing positive, responsive, and cooperative relationships with families. Students will explore the relationship of health, nutrition, and safety to learning. Students will continue to explore physical and cognitive development and competencies for preschool care. In addition, students will explore the local social service, health and education resources of the community and be able to recommend home activities to support preschool development. Prerequisites and other notes: Open to students in grades 10-12 who have completed Honors Child and Adolescent Development. This course is part of the Child Development and Early Education Program.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (CDA) PORTFOLIO AND INTERNSHIP Course: 401417 (Articulated) 1 credit This course provides opportunities for students to complete the CDA Preschool professional portfolio and prepare for the CDA certification exam and site visit. During this course, students will have an opportunity to become directly involved with preschoolers in the teaching-learning process. Students will be required to obtain experiential learning hours in a licensed program. Students will translate classroom observations into effective teaching and management practices.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (CDA) INTERNSHIP

* This program is for students who do not have CDEE at their home high school. (currently CHS and MVH)

PREREQUISITES- (Completed before you start the program)

• H Child and Adolescent Development
• Able to be successful in college level academics
• 94% attendance and 2.0 GPA 

4 credits-  1 credit at home high school, 2 credits at CCCTC, and 1 credit 

Student can then

1. Complete an internship or
2. Take a Dual Enrollment class ECE 104 Methods and Materials in Early Childhood Education

Internship Eligibility:

• Minimum GPA of 2.5

• 94% attendance rate

• Provide their own transportation

• 75 hour service learning hours completed

• All prerequisites must be successfully completed prior to enrollment

• Students must apply for the internship
