The Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) program consists of four high school courses that focus on teaching as a profession, human growth and development through adolescence, learning theory, and curriculum and instruction. Throughout their coursework, TAM students observe, create, and teach lessons. They focus on creating a positive learning environment, using effective classroom management, and incorporating a variety of learning strategies to meet the needs of all students. In the final course of this sequence TAM interns apply what they have learned as they work with a mentor teacher in an upper elementary or middle school setting.

Students who successfully complete the four courses can earn college credit and scholarships for the teacher education programs at many Maryland colleges and universities.

PREREQUISITES- (Completed before you start the program)

• Able to be successful in college level academics
• 94% attendance and 2.0 GPA 

4 credits-  3 credits at CCCTC (Jr or Sr year), and 1 credit internship

(Note: some schools offer the first class in the program H Child and Adolescent Development.)

Internship Eligibility:

• Minimum GPA of 2.5

• 94% attendance rate

• Provide their own transportation for internship

• 75 hour service learning hours completed

• Students must apply and be accepted to the internship

Carroll Community College, University of Maryland, and University of Baltimore-all have an agreement with CCCTC based on the college's requirements for curriculum, faculties, and instructor that is reviewed and renewed periodically to guarantee that students are getting the equivalent instruction at CCCTC that would be expected in class at that institution.  Credits are awarded based on that agreement. 

PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COUNSEL  By Federal and state regulations, each program has a group of local business and educational institutions that periodically meets to discuss  the program's curriculum and resources to make sure current trends in technology and skills are being taught so that students are prepared for the ever-changing career requirements for that industry.
